July 13, 2022, Toronto – The International Centre for Pension Management (ICPM) is pleased to announce the winners of the 2022 Call for Research. The recent Call for Research garnered a number of high-quality submissions from around the world. 

“The ICPM Research Committee was thoroughly impressed with the quality of submissions we received this year. It is clear that these winning papers tackle relevant and timely topics that are top-of-mind for asset owners,” says Mikhail Simutin, ICPM Associate Director of Research. 

The following submissions are awarded a monetary prize, as well as an invitation to present at various ICPM events, which connect leading pension sector experts and academics from around the world. More information on ICPM events can be found here.

First place ($20,000 CAD):

•    The Cost of ESG Investing by Laura Lindsey, Seth Pruitt, and Christoph Schiller (Arizona State University)

Second place ($10,000 CAD):

•    The Real Effects of Environmental Activist Investing by S. Lakshmi Naaraayanan (London Business School), Kunal Sachdeva (Rice University), and Varun Sharma (London Business School)

•    Missing Financial Data by Svetlana Bryzgalova (London Business School), Sven Lerner (Stanford University), Martin Lettau (University of California, Berkeley), and Markus Pelger (Stanford University)

•    Who Pays for Sustainability? An Analysis of Sustainability-Linked Bonds by Julian Kölbel (University of St. Gallen) and Adrien-Paul Lambillon (University of Zurich)

ICPM’s Research Committee is co-chaired by Mikhail Simutin (Rotman School of Management and ICPM Associate Director of Research) and Jaap van Dam (PGGM) and involves the following representatives: Susan Banta (Pew Charitable Trusts), James Davis (OPTrust), Bing Han (Rotman School of Management), Olivia Hendry (Railpen), Fernando Larrain (AAFP Chile), Scott McIntosh (OMERS), Gabriel Petre (World Bank), Michael Preisel (Independent), David Richardson (TIAA-CREF Investment Management), Onno Steenbeek (Algemene Pensioen Groep), and Rob Bauer (ICPM Executive Director).
