ICPM Board Elects New Chair and Vice-Chair
The International Centre for Pension Management (ICPM) is pleased to announce Michelle Ostermann is assuming the role of Chair and Matilde Segarra Vice-Chair of our ICPM Board. Michelle and Matilde take their positions immediately as outgoing Chair Sudhir Rajkumar’s term concluded at the end of 2023.
ICPM warmly thanks Sudhir for his exceptional leadership, hard work, and unwavering dedication to furthering the ICPM Mission. Sudhir attended his first ICPM Discussion Forum in 2009 and joined the ICPM Board in 2012. Over the past decade, he served on nearly all its committees, and as Vice-Chair for five years. Sudhir assumed the Chair role in 2020 at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, during which he guided ICPM through a significant broadening and deepening of its virtual offerings. In 2022, Sudhir led the succession planning exercise, and thereafter guided the transition from long-time Executive Director Rob Bauer to new Executive Director Sebastien Betermier, and a strengthening and expansion of the ICPM organization. As a token of its appreciation, the ICPM Board elected Sudhir as Chair Emeritus.
“Not only is Sudhir a leader for us all, but also a mentor to me personally,” says Michelle Ostermann. “Working alongside him these past few years as Vice-Chair has been a rewarding experience. Matilde and I are excited for what lies ahead for ICPM and our global network. Our board has always been very hands-on, and I am confident that together we will further enhance the impact ICPM makes on the global pension industry.”
“It has been a true honour to serve on the board,” adds Sudhir Rajkumar. “I’m so proud of ICPM’s contribution to strengthening pension governance and investments, by exchanging best practices among its global network of 48 pension organizations, responsible for $6 trillion in assets. I have no doubt that the network will reach new heights in this next phase under Michelle and Matilde’s direction.”
Michelle Ostermann was recently appointed as the Chief Executive Officer of the UK-based Pension Protection Fund, which manages £32.5 billion in assets safeguarding nearly 10 million members of eligible Defined Benefit pension schemes. With 30 years of experience in the global pension and investment industry, she has held senior positions at several leading firms, including PSP Investments as Senior Vice President and Global Head of Capital Markets and Railpen Investments as Managing Director.
Matilde Segarra is currently Chief Executive Officer of APG US where she is responsible for overseeing APG US’ investment activities and operations. In this role, she serves a.o. as the Chairperson of the APG US Executive Board, the Responsible Investment Board, and the Private Equity Co-Investment Committee. She also serves as co-Lead of APG Asset Management’s Global People & Culture Strategy and is a proud Board sponsor of the APG US Women’s Forum. Prior to her current role, she was Chief Risk Officer Asia Pacific for Fidelity International and held various other positions for APG’s Netherlands, Hong Kong and New York offices.
